Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Azure, two wings conjoined in base Or on a chief engrailed Gules two javelins in saltire of the second.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield a tripartite Gold scroll inscribed "TALONS" to dexter, "OF" in the center and "VICTORY" to sinister in Black letters.

Symbolism
The yellow (gold) wings in a field of blue symbolize the organization and its aerial mission.  The two javelins, early Infantry weapons, refer to the two decorations received by the predecessor organization of Company A in World War II.  The colors red and blue refer to their support of the Infantry Division whose flag is red and blue.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 7 April 1967.  It was rescinded on 23 December 1974.
